Why to Go and See Stomp the Musical

Music + Instruments, Universe Of Leisure

The expression stomp originally started with two buskers dazzling the streets of Brighton, UK with music, their catchy overall performance hooking in bystaders to stop, watch, and listen. Created by Steven McNichols and Luke Cresswell in Brighton, UK, the music STOMP debuted within the Orpheum Theatre in February 1994. The music STOMP can also track some of its roots to Booth Theatres erected at the Village Fairs within the Middle Ages and Renaissance time period- an old custom in that time. In contrast to any other musical, STOMP pushes the concept of what constitutes music. Eight nightly performers play basic and complex rhythms from everyday items, such as six foot poles, sand, brooms, lids, litres of water, and aluminum bins. Via dance and audio, the group collaborates with each other to play music, too as giving person self-expression. STOMP is a sensual blend of comedy, percussion, and energetic movements. The music STOMP is the unique construction of Steven McNichols and Luke Cresswell that captalizes on a ‘less is more’ premise. It is a passionate production, not effortlessly classified into a particular music or theatrical genre. Through the absence of melodies, the audience listens to audio obtaining broken down into basics as eight chiseled and energetic performers pound out rhythms with regular items: poles, drumsticks, match boxes, water, brooms, bins, and lids. Ironically, the common high quality of these objects catapults STOMP to an artistic level unmatched by some other modern theatrical acts. The simplicity in which the cast manipulates their ‘instruments’ and body stretches the imagination into an exciting reality. Their set design is flashy and colorful at times; a more elaborate metal construction displays instruments that are struck by performers harnessed from the ceiling. This restriction frees the cast to use their feet, legs, and arms to create loud group rhythms which shake the rafters and audience with it’s intense, tribal rhythms. These in-your-face cadences are a strong avenue for individual and collective expression, leaving numerous on the edge of their seats. STOMP’s shortage of fancy performer outfits keeps the emphasis on what really counts: dance moves and musical rhythms, which turn out to be much more intricate with each subsequent scene. Subtlety is also used to balance these raw rhythms. One scene is centered around performers tapping six foot poles, as they stealthily circuit the stage, nearly preying on one another with their moves and rhythms. Their sense of interconnection is palpable and sensual, cast eye contact igniting the expectation, as you nearly discover yourself asking yourself who is going to ‘win’ at this musical game. Yet, everyone wins, the audience even invited into the performance through a cast member who initiates a clap-and-response session. Around two hours in duration, STOMP keeps one’s attention, making you wonder how items usually reserved for math problems, cleaning, and construction projects can entertain and produce a powerful musical group dynamic. In this age of modern technology, STOMP is a refreshing blend of primal instincts meeting music genious, reminding us of the musical and rhythmic potential right under our noses. Jason Derulo Rocks Ayala Malls

Music + Instruments

Jason Derulo might have been Justin Bieber’s African-American version re fan base in the Philippines judging by the hardly teen kids who screamed the loudest during his up to date Ayala Malls tour. Though no funny rush, pandemonium of sorts happened, it might still have been an understatement to assert they were intensely excited to see Derulo in the town, in real life, singing and dancing his hits at a virtually arm’s length distance.
Mind you, at the 1st sign of smoke, signalling Derulo’s forecasted presence on stage, small boys on the best seats, scurried up the stage in hope of a way better view” and presumably contact with the world singing import. If not for the intervention of the bouncers, the remainder of us, Generation Y, would have resigned ourselves to listening and watching Derulo on the large screen set up behind the stage. That is if we had the patience of a saint, not turning to disciplinary action which would have comprised spanking and calling on the elders of those kids.
Teasing . Derulo, twenty-one, is the African-American vocalist responsible for hits like Watcha Say, Ridin’ Solo and In My Head, which is at present playing non stop on MTV, Channel V and radio airwaves. Like Lady Gaga, Derulo was at first a song-writer for his more well known opposite numbers beginning with Southern rapper Baby. Derulo, then seventeen, composed and sang the chorus to Dominating -one of the tracks in Baby’s Fve*Stunna album. He became irresistible since that point, writing songs for hiphop star Lil Wayne, Sean Kingston, Iyaz, RB frontman Cassie, and girl group Danity Kane to name a couple. It’s a man named Tommy who discovered Derulo’s musical genius aside from writing. Tommy is the bro of a well known record producer J.R. Rotem of Beluga Heights recording label. In 2009, Derulo debuts with the single Watcha Say, which rapidly became No. One on the Billboard’s hot hundred, Rhythmical , and Pop charts. The 1st single also reached No. 2 on the iTunes singles and has been certificated double-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. Not bad for someone that has started composing songs on the piano at age 8. The tune was titled Crush on You. Derulo describes his music as a mixture of pop, rock, electronic, and RB.
His influences go from Michael Jackson, Usher, and Justin Timberlake. And women, Derulo announces he’s now unattached. Though you could have to attend a bit as the young frontman / composer is enjoying Ridin’ Solo. In a joined interview with Standard Today and Candy mag at the Gambrinus eaterie of the InterContinental Hotel, Derulo related he doesn’t mind at all being single. Actually, that was one of the explanations why he wrote Ridin Solo.

Is Your Child Capable of Composing Music? Maybe the Next Mozart?

Music + Instruments

We’ve all heard of them. Child prodigies who begin composing music at some ridiculously young age. For instance, history reports that Mozart was writing minuets by the time he was five years old. Amazing. At five years of age, I’m not sure that I knew the difference between my finger and my thumb and I certainly wasn’t composing music.

Now there is no doubt that the fact that Mozart was composing music by the age of five does not prove that any of the rest of us ever could compose music, but a number of studies conducted over the past fifty or so years indicates that most children can begin composing music as long as they are given both guidance and opportunity.

True, in the vast majority of the cases the end product is not going to rival anything that Mozart put out, but just because you (or your child) may not be the best there ever was at composing music doesn’t mean the attempt is not worth the effort. If we follow that reasoning why would a child learn to walk or run when he or she knows he could never walk or run as well as, say, Michael Jordan? Why would they learn to talk if they knew they could never speak as well as Bill Clinton or Ronald Reagan?

Similarly, imagine if Mozart’s parents had not given him the opportunity to be exposed to music and then the formal training that gave him the tools to begin composing music. The world would be a poorer place without the input of this musical genius.

In Mozart’s situation, he began formal training on the keyboard at the age of four and within a year he was composing music - though I’m sure that it wasn’t of the caliber of his later works. In the case of the average child, however studies have shown that if given the opportunity and the education (i.e. instruction on an instrument, a little bit of music theory, etc) average children can begin composing music somewhere around the age of nine.

Give your child the opportunity and training he or she needs to begin composing music. In most cases it will develop their mind, round out their education, and give them a creative outlet. Eventually, however, of all the children composing music who might not have otherwise, the next Mozart will spring and if it’s your child, the world will thank you. And if not, at least your child has been exposed to some good music and had his or her mind stretched a bit.

I am extremely thankful that my parents had the good sense to expose me to music by way of piano lessons starting when I was about 7. And even though it didn’t “take” until I was an early teenager, when it did I had the background in music theory and technique to where I could progress rapidly from then on. And while I’m a country mile from Mozart’s class, I do well enough to enjoy my self and make a living in music.
