Now that you’ve got your decorating project well underway by placing rugs, ordering upholstery and selecting a color scheme, it is time to add the finish and polish. Here we’ll touch on ideas and sources for some wonderful window treatments, awesome accessories and charming collectibles, and delightful artwork to add personality and character to your interior.
Window treatments are made to dress the windows, simply framing the view or providing light and privacy control. They have valuable acoustic benefits, especially in the soaring spaces so popular in today’s homes. With the vast quantities of glass and hardwood floors found in so many new houses, draperies can be an important softening element against rooms that echo. In addition, they provide an easy and effective means of bringing some pattern and color to a higher level, thereby balancing the room. (Otherwise, it can tend to look bottom heavy!) Be aware that we are talking about fabric based treatments here, not wood blinds or plantation shutters. While both are an option, they do not offer any acoustical advantage and, in fact, may compete with the profusion of architectural detail prevalent in interior spaces today.
Often window treatments can be used successfully to frame a terrific view or highlight an outdoor feature. For a more tailored look, an upholstered cornice board may be used. (These are often best balanced by adding side panels for a grounding effect.) By using simple, stationary side panels with a valance or swag design cost is reduced, and the effect is optimized. Unique and creative decorative hardware, such as a fluted wood pole or twisted metal rod with delightful finial ends can be incorporated for a more airy feeling. You can fudge the height of a room, visually lifting the ceiling height, by installing valances and such at least 8″ above the top of the window molding if space allows. If there is very little room between the bottom of the crown molding and the top of the window frame, then mount the valance at the base of the molding. Make sure that your top treatment is deep enough to cover the top of the window frame so that the effect is maintained.
Remember to pay attention to the type and size of pattern you choose. In many instances, the fabric will be gathered so that the pattern will be distorted. Surely you’ll want to consider the wealth of beautiful tassels and trims that can be added to treatments. These can range from whimsical to elegant and serve to personalize your look. For ready made window treatments, check out some of the bed and bath stores, like Bed, Bath and Beyond, Linens and Things, Home Expo, and The Curtain Exchange. For a custom look contact your favorite local designer.
On accents and accessories, consider mixing your elements again. You’ll want to include elements of glass or crystal, a variety of metal finishes, wood tones, stone looks, and even ceramic. For a more traditional formal feeling, use pairs of objects to create a symmetrical balance. For a casual, more contemporary mood, work in odd numbers, providing a more asymmetrical look and dynamic. Try to group like objects together for maximum impact. Always keep your collections together, rather than scattered throughout the house. Do use bookends, and not the kind from the office superstore! There are a host of intriguing ones to choose from including fancy ornamental ironwork, globes on stands, any manner of animal (monkeys and elephants seem most prolific), and, of course, architectural features like columns, finials and acanthus leaves. Avoid running books clear across a shelf, because it is heavy looking. Create interest by adding art objects and photographs between clusters of books. Photographs are most effective when grouped by like frame, such as all gold together, all silver, all wood and such. Vary the sizes so that they can be stacked with tall in the back and smaller in front.
The key to accessories and accents is to make it personal. Try to get pieces you really enjoy rather than just space fillers. Be sure to include family mementos and treasures from your travels, even children’s crafts can be shown off. Display your collectibles, no matter what the item. When effectively presented personal collections add personality and interest. If you aren’t going to enjoy it, why have it?! Even sports memorabilia (not just for guys!) can be well arranged and handsomely showcased.
Consider putting decorative accessories on an angle. Placed at an angle, objects are easier to view from all sides, have a greater sense of movement and are less static visually. Great places to shop for decorative accents are Hill Street Warehouse, Pier 1 Imports, Home Expo, and your favorite local designer who probably keeps special accents on hand for just such an opportunity.
Personalizing your home may seem overwhelming, and you may feel like you don’t know where to start. Just use these steps, take your time and have fun with it. If you are more inclined to get it all done at once and don’t know where to start, call a qualified design professional. Their expertise and guidance can be invaluable, and many work by the hour, both consulting and sourcing. Your home is your castle, your haven, your place to enjoy, so take the time to make it reflect who you are!

When selling yourself, be quick, direct, and get your point across in less than half a minute. We’re always on a hyper deadline. No time for small talk. Tell me what you have and let’s go. 10-second sound bites, three word emails, short hand text messagesspeed of communication is king. You can either resist this fast pace and lose out, or make it work for you and watch it pay off nicely.
Small business owners: get to the point fast and then get faster. Give your unique selling proposition without fluff. If you have a janitorial supply company, skip the long description. Try this instead: “You know how sometimes there are bad smells coming from restaurant kitchens or smoky bars?we fix those problems. We have fun finding cleaning solutions.” It’s quick, unique and memorable. And you haven’t wasted your prospects’ time. He is impressed you know your business that well and can convey a meaninful message that quickly.
Get noticed. Impress potential customers by knowing who you are and what you do. This isn’t your whole pitch, just the first one. Get it right now and you’ll have all the time in the world to build a profitable relationship with your new customer in the days and years to come

Low carb diets are known as the diets that let you eat well, enjoy your food and still lose weight. But, what are low carb diets?
Popular well known diets that are low in carbohydrates are the Atkins Diet, the Zone Diet and the South Beach Diet. All these diets work by restricting carbohydrates in the diet and replacing them with fats and protein using low carb recipes. Some doctors and nutritionists think that low carb diets can reduce weight, lower cholesterol and blood pressure and also treat hypoglycaemia and type 2 diabetes. A low carb diet means reducing your carbohydrate consumption to less than 10% of your daily calorific intake.
How Do Low Carb Diets Work?
When we consume a meal high in carbohydrates, our raised blood sugar stimulates the production of insulin in the pancreas. Insulin is needed by the body for blood sugar to be used but a side effect of insulin production is the depositing of fat and a feeling of hunger, so we eat more carbs and the vicious circle starts again. If we start to reduce our intake of carbs by eating low carb recipes we can reduce the body’s production of insulin and increase the body’s production of glucagon. Glucagon helps the body to burn fat. If we dramatically reduce our intake of carbs, the body can go into a state of ketosis where fat is burned, insulin levels are reduced, blood sugar is balanced and we lose weight.
Benefits of Low Carb Diets:-
- Weight loss through fat burning
- Control of blood sugar levels
- Lower cholesterol levels and blood pressure
- Control of appetite - don’t feel hungry and restricted like with some diets.
- Lower levels of insulin
Tips for Following a Low Carb Diet
Following any new diet can be tricky at first until we have learned the basics but there are many resources online with instructions on how to follow a low carb diet and low carb recipes. Here are a few tips to make life easier:-
- Lower your intake of carbohydrates to less than 10% of your daily calorific intake.
- Drink plenty of water.
- Avoid caffeine.
- Supplement your diet with a good vitamin and mineral supplement and take psyllium husk capsules to prevent constipation.
- Look online for tasty low carb recipes, most collections of recipes will include some low carb ones.
- Cut out foods containing white four and white sugar.
- Stick to the “allowed” lists of foods and concentrate on this list rather than thinking about what you can’t eat.
- Check food labels for carb content.
- Plan ahead and prepare - go shopping, sort through cupboards and rid your fridge of foods you’re not allowed and make a recipe collection of low carb recipes.
- Buy a pocket carb counter or use an online one to help you count the carbs in foods and in your low carb recipes.

When writing your press release there are a few tips that will help you turn an ordinary topic into the sort of hot item that will end up winning you massive publicity.
a) In your press release put yourself in the shoes of the reader. What is of interest to them? How can they benefit from the information that you have?
b) Sometimes simple information of something you are doing in your blog can be of great benefit to many folks out there. My advice is that any new thing you do at your blog, simply announce it in a brief press release. You will not hit a home run every time but you never know when you will and end up increasing your traffic many times over. What’s more, every press release is bound to attract some sort of interest.
c) As much as possible give actual figures and numbers to support what you are saying in your press release. You can even get figures from the industry in general to illustrate a specific point in your web site. Figures will always add great weight to any press release.
d) There is nothing wrong with using your targeted keyword phrases in your press release. In fact it is a brilliant idea.
Interested in sending your press release where over 50,000 bloggers will instantly see it?

India ranks second on the basis of population in the world. Agricultural land utilised by the burgeoning population, the cultivable land resource is shrinking day by day. To meet the food, fibre, fuel, fodder, and other needs of the growing population, the productivity of agricultural land has to be increased rationally. This requires the use of all resources judiciously. In India, the mineral gypsum is mostly used in the manufacture of cement, fertiliser, plaster of Paris, ceramics and distemper. Smaller quantity is used as soil conditioner, for carving and statuary purposes. India has huge resources of natural gypsum of the order of 1120 million tonnes, of which recoverable reserves are estimated at 237 million tonnes. Over 95 per cent of the natural gypsum come from Rajasthan.
Gypsum is chemically calcium sulfate dihydrate (CaSO4.2H2O). When dissolved in water, it yields calcium ions (Ca2+) and sulfate-sulfur ions (SO42-). Both of these ions are essential major nutrients for growing plants. In addition to this, calcium also plays a vital role in establishing and maintaining good chemical balance in soil, water and plants. Gypsum is one of those rare materials that perform in all three categories of soil treatment: an amendment, conditioner, and fertilizer. The usage of gypsum in agriculture can be grouped into following heads:
Reclaims soil sodicity: The sodic soils have exchangeable sodium percentage (ESP) more than 15, it must be lowered for soil improvement as well as better crop growth. The calcium supplied by gypsum replaces the sodium held at the clay-exchange sites. The replaced sodium can be leached from the soil as sodium sulfate to an appropriate sink.
Decreases the toxic effect of NaCl salinity: Calcium from gypsum has a physiological role in inhibiting the uptake of sodium by plants. Thus plant are mitigate the sodium toxicity, which is more pronounced in the salt affected soils.
Decreases pH of sodic soils: The sodic soils are characterised by the high soil pH (>8.5). Gypsum lowers the high pH of sodic soils or near sodic soils to 7.5 to 7.8. These values are in the range of acceptability for growth of most crop plants. Increased calcium uptake by roots when gypsum is applied can decrease the pH of the rhizosphere.
Creates favorable soil EC: The more EC value of the soil is undesired for the crop growth. The high EC of soil are due to fertilizer application as well as by the weathering of soil minerals. Gypsum, being readily soluble, results in proper buffered solute concentration (EC) in soil to maintain soil in a flocculated state.
Makes excess Magnesium non-toxic: Calcium is essential to the biochemical mechanisms by which most plants nutrients are absorbed by roots. Without adequate calcium, uptake mechanisms would fail. In soils having unfavorable calcium magnesium ratios, such as serpentine soils, gypsum can create a more favorable ratio. Thus render Magnesium non-toxic.
Decreases heavy-metal toxicity: Calcium plays a role of regulator for balance of micro-nutrients, such as iron, zinc, manganese and copper, in plants. Calcium prevents excess uptake of many of them; and once they are in the plant, calcium keeps them from having adverse effects when their levels get high. Calcium in liberal quantities helps to maintain a healthy balance of nutrients and non-nutrients within plants. Gypsum also removes excess of Boron from sodic soil. It also regulates non-essential trace elements.
Improves soil structure: Gypsum provides calcium, which, flocculate clays in acid and alkaline soil. A flocculated clays form friable soil with improved soil structure and tilth. It also allows for deeper, healthier root development and water penetration.
Prevents crusting of soil: Gypsum application can decrease and prevent the crust formation on soil surfaces which result from rain drops or from sprinkler irrigation on unstable soil. It can prevent crusting that result when acid soils are limed and the gypsum is coapplied with the lime.
Improves compacted soil: Gypsum can break up compacted soil and decrease penetrometer resistance. Combination with organic amendments also helps, especially in preventing return of the compaction. The soils applied with gypsum have low bulk density.
Makes slightly wet soils easier to till: Soils that have been treated with gypsum have a wider range of soil moisture levels where it is safe to till without danger of compaction or deflocculation. Even a liberal application of gypsum is a good procedure for starting a piece of land into no-till soil management or pasture. Gypsum also improves the ability of soil to drain and not become waterlogged due to a combination of high sodium, swelling clay, and excess water.
Stops water runoff and erosion: Gypsum improves water infiltration rates into soils and also the hydraulic conductivity of the soil. The use of gypsum can decrease wind and water erosion of soil.
Improves swelling clays: Gypsum can decrease the swelling and cracking associated with high levels of exchangeable sodium on the montmorillonite-type clays. As sodium is replaced by calcium on these clays, they swell less and therefore do not easily clog the pore spaces through which air, water and roots move.
Increases water retention in soil: Gypsum when applied to sodic soil reduced the levels of exchangeable sodium resulted in increase in water retention. The improved soil structure help in the more retention of water.
Increases the stability of soil organic matter: Gypsum is a source of calcium responsible for the binding of soil organic matter to clay and gives stability to soil aggregates.
Improves low-solute irrigation water: Gypsum is used to increase the solute concentration of low-solute water used for irrigation. Irrigation water from rivers that no longer have sources of leachable salts either penetrates poorly into soil or causes soil particles to degrade which results in low-water penetration. The problem can be corrected with surface-applied gypsum or application to the irrigation water.
Improves water-use efficiency: Gypsum application increases water-use efficiency of crops. Improved water infiltration rates, improved hydraulic conductivity of soil, better water storage in the soil all lead to deeper rooting and better water-use efficiency.
Efficiently use low quality irrigation water: Use of reclaimed municipal wastewater is important for conservation of natural resources. Reclaimed water can be satisfactorily used if amended with gypsum and water-soluble polymers.
Improves fruit quality and prevents some plant diseases: The quality of fruit depends on the amount of calcium. Calcium is nearly always only marginally sufficient and often deficient in developing fruits. Calcium moves very slowly, if at all, from one plant part to another and fruits at the end of the transport system get too little. Calcium must be constantly available to the roots. In very high pH soils, calcium is not available enough; therefore, gypsum helps. Gypsum is used for peanuts, which develop below ground, to keep them disease free. Gypsum helps prevent blossom-end rot of watermelon and tomatoes and bitter pit in apples. Gypsum is preferred over lime for potatoes grown in acid soils so that scab may be controlled.
Decreases loss of fertilizer nitrogen to the air: Calcium from gypsum can help decrease volatilization loss of ammonium nitrogen from applications of ammonia, ammonium nitrate, urea, ammonium sulfate, or any of the ammonium phosphates.
Keeps clay off tuber and root crops: Gypsum can help keep clay particles from adhering to roots, bulbs and tubers of crops like potato, carrots, garlic and beets.
Helps Earthworms to Flourish: A continuous supply of calcium with organics is necessary for the habitat of earthworms that improve soil aeration, improve soil aggregation and churn the organic matter with inorganic fraction of soil.

Blue spruce trees have been reported to be suffering from the
Blue Spruce Rust in the Horsham Pa. area. This Rust is difficult
to control. For this reason alone I would suggest that you NOT
plant the Blue Spruces.
If my farm were run like a democracy and one man one vote
applied for whether we should plant or sell Colorado Blue
Spruce, the vote would 100% against the Blue Spruce Tree. The
Blue Spruce also known as Picea pungens Engelm is noted for
being majestic, stately, with its silver blue color and
symetricle form. Its color can range from blue to green. The
color variations are genetic traits of the tree. For uniform
color from tree to tree one should use grafted cuttings, which
command premium prices. The Blue Spruce is widely planted
througout the US because it is tolerant to a variety of site
conditions. It has good drought, wind, and cold tolerance. The
Blue Spruce finds uses such as wind breaks and as an ornamental
in landscape designs. Deer don’t prefer to eat these trees
unless they are very hungry. Now you would think that this tree
would get our vote. But my boys hate to work with these trees
because they can be brutal on transplanting. Like wrestling with
a porkupine! You can see more of Bill’s plant talk at his web

The search for college information can lead to many different places depending on what an individual is looking for. For information about a school itself, a best bet is to do a search of the college name and then go to its official college website. The vast majority of schools have an information rich website that will explain everything from their philosophy on education to their admissions process. It is also where one can find links to financial aid and scholarship searches in addition to online applications. It will also provide descriptive information such as accreditation, staff biographies and even a brief synopsis of the school’s history.
When looking for college information concerning career colleges or online learning options, many turn to the Internet to find the information they need. This can be a great way to get up to date information on statistics, addresses, phone numbers and other pertinent facts. Some websites offer lists of different colleges by state, allowing one to find educational options in their immediate area. There are also many websites set up to offer basic information on college degrees, financial aid, scholarships, admission processes, SAT’s and many other areas one will need to know about when dealing taking on higher education.

The period, more or less one year before September 11. The White House Technology Advisor worked in the mankind largest plan until now, to install a fantastic communications and IT network of 100 Mb/s in 100 million houses in the next 10 years. A plan bigger than the Kennedy’s plan to place a man in the Moon in 10 years.
The plan was being developed with a lot of priorities, 470 companies had already petitioned to participate and/or to invest, they discussed the more suitable communications protocol among the existent ones - as the H.323 - and the new ones, etc. The forecast was to announce it until the end of 2002.
That plan had very big goals, among which I can remember:
01. e-Surgery
02. e-Physician
03. e-Education (all levels)
04. e-Training (for companies)
05. e-Business (B2B, B2C, C2B, and by voice)
06. Iterative TV
07. e-Movies
08. e-Security (Federal, State, Country, homes)
09. e-Elections
10. TV telephony
11. e-Police
12. e-Government (all between the government and the Citizens)
13. e-Theater
14. e-Conferences
15. e-Libraries
16. e-Sciences
17. e-Polls
18. e-Management
19. TeleCommuter (home work)
20. All IT processing and storage through distant data centers
21. An estimated 1,000,000 new companies
and more e-Xs that you can imagine.
In every moment that I thought of this plan, I lamented two things: first, to be 73-years old and probably cannot accompanies him in the next 30 years, and second, the dozens of technological ideas that I could suggest.
And then the September 11 happened, the main national priority moved to security matters, the investments - government and privates - moved to another directions and the people worried more about the moment than with the future.
But in order to survive, without the smallest doubt we need this technological plan in order to maintain the world technological hegemony of the United States in the next 30-40 years and as a result, our world economic hegemony. And as you realize, I am talking about our children and grandsons future.
Now we are choosing a new President but any that comes to be the chosen, again that plan must have a very high priority, and for its greatness and for its long duration naturally he doesn’t depend on a specific Party or a specific government.
Now we have a lot of communication products and services - mobiles and its thousand of applications, digital TV, etc - and a lot of IT applications and services - CRM Customer Relationship Management with sophisticated voice and bidirectional Call Centers, ERP Enterprise Resources Planning, Voice over IP Voip, BI Business Intelligence, Data Mining, AI Artificial Intelligence, GSI, the wide Internet and its thousand of applications, etc - but all those are small embryos of what is possible to do.
What we need to do?
As the plan is natural and technologically possible and in its largest portion depends more on the private initiatives and less on the government, my suggestion is the creation of a nonpolitical Foundation to fight for this plan in the White House, the Congress, the media, the society, the industries, the colleges, etc., and naturally to integrate all those sides.
I have the freedom of initiatives in my blood and for me nothing is more powerful than a very true entrepreneur. After all, those entrepreneurs created the successful United States, therefore we need only to repeat the recipe. For ever.

Here are some important pet travel tips that you need to know while planning a vacation with your pet.
Bringing your pet with you on your vacation is becoming easier. Lots of hotels and motels are accommodating pet travel.
Most National Parks have strict regulations restricting pets. Check with them ahead of time. Your pet may not be able to walk with you but you can still spend some happy time together.
Before you bring Fido or Fluffy on your trip make sure that they are physically up to it. Take her to the vet first and be sure that she is in sound health.
Make sure she has all her necessary vaccinations along with a health certificate to bring along with you on your trip.
Be sure she has a collar with ID tag that contains your name and phone number. If she gets lost somehow, that could be the only way she gets back home.
A pet that is not well behaved can be a problem and may not be suited to travel. She will be in strange surroundings and you don’t want her to scratch or bite out of fear and confusion.
If you must leave your pet home please be sure that she is well cared for. Professional pet sitters, kennels, friends or family are options available to you.
Leave explicit instructions for care and the phone number of your vet.
Most airlines will accommodate pet travel but they all have their own rules. Dogs and cats are usually ok but other pets may present a problem.
Your pet can travel either in the passenger cabin or in the cargo hold. Pet travel in the cargo hold can be a little rough and ventilation is not the best. Your vet should be able to help you evaluate if Fido or Fluffy is up to it.
Well behaved pets that are able to travel in an appropriate sized container may be brought with you on the plane. They will be treated as carry on luggage and will have to ride under your seat.
Pet travel in your car is a much more straight forward arrangement for all. Some pets can’t handle it though and it is best to make sure she is up to it before your vacation starts.
Take basic safety precautions like not letting the animal run free in the vehicle. She could cause an accident. This means that she should be leashed securely or travel in a pet container.
Never leave your precious pet in a hot car with the windows shut. It doesn’t take long for the temperature inside to reach lethal levels.
Make sure you provide her with fresh water and food. For dogs, she will greatly appreciate frequent stops to get a quick bit of exercise.
When bringing your pet to a motel or hotel that accommodates pet travel please be sure to follow all their rules. A bad experience will make it more difficult for future pet owners. Keep her leashed and clean up after her. Do not allow her to damage property by chewing or scratching.
Be prepared for emergencies and possible problems due to stress. If possible, find out the name and phone number of a local vet or animal hospital near where you will be staying.
With a little effort your vacation can be safe and fun for both people and animals. Remember, Fido or Fluffy can’t look after themselves so it is up to you to be sure that their traveling needs are taken care of.
The author, of this article, Peter Shannon, is the owner of the website www.1001-vacation-ideas.com. Here you will find a large collection of vacation and getaway ideas for travelers searchable by theme and location.

Before you start jumping on the Vikings band wagon after seeing yesterday’s contest against the Detroit Lions, keep in mind that the Vikings are mediocre at best.
The Vikings beat a club that is awful. They came into Sunday’s game with a record of 3-4. They were hardly what anyone would call a true competitor for most NFL teams. Well they were to the Vikings who are just as bad a team.
The Vikings have beaten other sub-par teams on their way to their second place 3-5 record. They got their first win against the New Orleans Saints. Their second win came against the Green Bay Packers, the worst team in the NFC North.
Wow! Doesn’t that make you feel so excited that they beat the Lions who came into the game with a 3-4 record? It makes the Vikings feel on top of the world. They now feel confident that they can win the division.
Right now the 5-3 Chicago Bears lead the NFC North and are the only team with a winning record in the division.
The Vikings need to make up two games against the bears to have a chance at winning the division. While anything is possible, it’s highly unlikely.
The Vikings will do their best to win the division. They may even win a few more games and end up in 2nd place. This would give them a good enough record to receive a mediocre pick in the NFL draft.
I think the Vikings should count their losses and ensure a decent pick in the draft. I know many of you are shocked that I would advocate this type of behavior. I’m sure you think that I should be demanding that the team do their best on the field.
The Vikings haven’t done their best all year and have embarrassed the State of Minnesota on and off the field. We’ve come to expect the worst from this hapless bunch of hacks and degenerates.
I think the fans should get some reward for experiencing the fiasco known as the Minnesota Vikings. This reward should come in the form of a good draft pick.
This season has been very painful to watch. We’ve seen some of the worst football in years and have we’ve all heard of Cruisegate.
This team has brought shame to Minnesota.
I don’t see much hope for the Vikings. I was shocked at how the announcers of yesterday’s game were praising the play of the Vikings and especially Fred “I can’t even cover a snail” Smoot.
Smoot did look better Sunday but look at his competition.
Last week Smoot was covering a Ferrari. Yesterday he was covering a Neon. It’s no wonder that he looked better.
I know many of you are probably mad about my negativity of this article and others on the Vikings Football Zone (www.itstherightway.com/fantasy.html) towards the Vikings but I’m being honest.
I’m not sugar coating anything.
The Vikings came into yesterday’s game as one of the worst teams in both offense and defense.
I was only happy that they were facing a more hopeless team then themselves.
The Vikings aren’t worthy of my praise. They need to earn it every week. Until they do earn my praise, they will continue to be criticized by this column.
