5 Tips To Maximize Your Child’s Wardrobe During Seasonal Change

University of Lifestyle

While the northern hemisphere prepares to put away their winter wear in preparation for the warmer summer months, we here in the southern hemisphere are doing the exact opposite.

Living here in southern Queensland, Australia, we experience relatively stable seasons. Therefore it’s not uncommon that particular clothes worn for one season are not needed again until the following year.

As adults, the uncomplicated approach to a new season can simply involve resurrecting the previous year’s items, and rearranging these items to the front of your wardrobe. Any changes to particular items are generally dictated more by fashion or personal preference than by ‘fit’ (unless of course we have gained or lost a few kilos!).

Now when it comes to growing children, the change of season often dictates a totally different approach. Depending on the individual child and their age, they’ll grow at different rates from one year to the next. The impact of this growth on an existing wardrobe, can range anything from the requirement for a ‘part’ modification (where most items still ‘fit’), up to, and including the situation where a ‘complete overhaul’ is in order (where virtually everything has been outgrown).

Particularly where the latter situation is the case, one of the first reactions to this sudden realization can be panic and stress (especially if you’re the parent who’s responsible for finding, and financing these ‘modifications’).

So ‘BEFORE’ pulling out your credit card, and rushing out on a panic shopping spree with your child / children, here are 5 practical tips to consider to save both your purse and your sanity:

1. INVEST THE TIME to go through each child’s existing wardrobe. If the idea of this task is stressful for either party, consider breaking it down into smaller manageable parts. (I.e. concentrate on one child’s wardrobe at a time, and/or break the exercise up over several sessions or days. E.g. Spend 15-30 minutes per session going through a particular section. Perhaps jumpers 1 session, and long pants the next etc.)

2. AVOID GUESSING whether an item fits or not. This includes ‘calculated guesswork’ which is the exercise of ‘holding an item’ up against the body. If it’s been several months since a child has worn an article of clothing, take the time to physically get them to TRY EACH ITEM ON. You’ll be amazed at how much more accurate your assessment will be by basing your judgments on practical testing and not calculated guesswork.

3. If you have children of the same sex, consider WORKING THROUGH THEIR WARDROBES FROM OLDEST TO YOUNGEST. Working in this manner means that ‘pre-loved’ or outgrown items from an older sibling can be passed down to the younger siblings and included in the items they will try on, along with their existing wardrobe. The benefits of this exercise are two-fold: 1. Younger siblings can find themselves with an ‘instant brand new’ (to them) wardrobe. 2. Minimizing the requirements for any one child’s wardrobe can result in a significant saving in time and money.

4. KEEP ONLY THOSE ITEMS you (and particularly your child), feel confident your child will wear. Depending on the age, personality and maturity of your child, if your child appears uncomfortable wearing a particular item, ask ‘them’ to consider if they feel they will wear it or not. If the answer is a resounding ‘no’, or their body language relays the same message, seriously consider removing that item from their wardrobe. No matter how much attachment another person may have to an article of clothing, if the person to whom it belongs is not going to wear it, the truthful fact is, it’s likely to end up taking space and energy in a cupboard. Learning to respect your child’s preferences and choices is an exercise that long term will not only save you heartache, but save your well-earned money as well.

5. SELL OR DONATE items of clothing that can’t be used by immediate family members or relatives. Occasionally there may be an article that has particular sentimental value that you may wish to retain as a ‘keepsake’. However for the most part, clothing serves its purpose when it is being worn and used. If an article is no longer being used within its current location, why not allow another individual to experience this pleasure. Not only is it a wonderful feeling to be able to give something to someone else, — it can be also be an extremely liberating feeling to not only clear your physical space, but also clear the emotional energy attached to holding onto something that is not fulfilling its purpose.

Although the above tips require an investment of your time and energy at the outset, you’ll be well rewarded for your efforts in both the short and long term. Armed with accurate information about your child’s existing wardrobe well before you part with a single cent, will help to ensure that when you ‘do’ shop, you’re investing your time and money into the most appropriate and needed items for that particular child.

And as an added bonus, remember our children are children for such a short time. So why not take advantage of this opportunity when going through their wardrobes — celebrate the fit of your child’s clothes as a measure of their growth from the previous year!

Copyright Transfer - Read the Fine Print Even on the Web

Great Legal Resources Tips

American Airlines is sponsoring a “Why You Fly” contest. The grand prize is a year’s worth of flying, and most anyone could use that. You enter by submitting a photo, an essay or a video.

On the contest website, you get to the page that is titled, “Legal Terms and Conditions.” You have to scan down to read the entire text. While most folks might “accept” the terms without reading them, this has some fine print that a photographer should read.

The terms state in part: “For good and valuable consideration . . . I hereby assign and transfer in perpetuity to American Airlines . . . all world-wide rights, title, and interest in . . . to all: . . . photographs . . . copyrights (including the right to register the copyright and any renewals or reversions thereof) . . . derivative works, and any other material and/or intellectual property embodied in the material created and submitted by me (”Work”) for the American Airlines We Know Why You Fly Contest (the “Contest”).”

If you agree to this, you have just transferred your copyright to American Airlines, regardless of whether you win a prize.

Similar events are occurring elsewhere. The license for AOL’s instant messaging product, “AIM,” gives AOL “all right, title and interest in any compilation, collective work or other derivative work created by AOL using or incorporating [the] . . . content. You grant AOL . . . the irrevocable, perpetual worldwide rights to reproduce, display . . . this content . . . .”

This gives AOL a liberal, free license to use any photo transmitted using “AIM.” To AOL’s defense, such license may be necessary to protect itself from copyright infringement. On the contrary, a transfer of copyright is not necessary for American Airlines to run its contest.

While you might think that you are safe because a copyright transfer must be in writing and signed by the copyright owner, the law has caught up with technology. You now can “sign” a document by responding electronically. A contract may be in any memorandum form, including electronic mail. It is “signed” by any mark, written, stamped or engraved, that demonstrates the intent to agree to the contract.

So read the fine print to protect your copyrights.

Making a Hard-boiled Egg - A Challenge

Esoterics

“This isn’t a hard-boiled egg!” my wife complained.

“Not too loud, Sweety. Your mama might hear us,” I answered back quietly.

Like every man of the house, I do the cooking once in a while. This is now my second attempt so I’m puzzled (mind you I’m a Certified House Chef) and disappointed why I can’t even cook a dumb egg. My eggs are cracked with some of the white out into the water. After removing the shells, I ended up having scrambled eggs with no dignity!

Resigned! Don’t laugh at me, I bet you can’t do a better job either.

Consistent dedication over a considerable period of time is a must if you are to succeed in any project worth pursuing.

Consistent attendance on a course over four years earns you a degree. Consistent sowing of corn earns you sackfuls of corn after four months. Consistent display of affection towards an unmarried lady for a period of one hour to five years (depending on your target) earns you a wife. Consistent nutrition of an embryo on a woman’s womb earns you a baby after nine months of waiting.

How foolish am I to think that I can have my hard-boiled egg immediately!

For aspiring chefs, maintain a consistent 100 degrees C on the egg for 23.10 minutes to make a hard-boiled egg. And don’t forget to put some water! (I wish my thermometer and watch are not broken.)

Do you want to be a success?

Be consistent in your work and patient enough to wait. Your effort will be richly rewarded in due time.

Alkalize to Reduce Your Size

Medical Hall

It is a fact that over 75% of people who lose weight put that weight back on within a year and of those who put it back on a further 50% will actually put on more weight than they started with in the first place!

How is that for a scary fact?

What I am about to tell you will help you to reduce your weight and help you to keep it at a level you are happy with. You will notice I have put the word help in bold text, this is because this is just the start to reducing your weight and it is without doubt the most important gift you could give to your body to help that weight reduction.

Do you know what a ph scale is?

A ph scale is a measurement guide to acidity and alkalinity. It is a sliding scale from 1 to 14 where 1 is completely acidic and 14 is completely alkaline. This means that 7 is completely neutral, neither acid nor alkali.

Why is this so important? Well our bodies are a fine balance between acid and alkali and the optimum level for our bodies to be at is 7.36 which is just slightly alkali. If you are over weight I guarantee that you body is acidic because that is basically what fat is, stored acid that your body has not been able to break down.

When you start to get your body back towards the optimum level of 7.36 your body will automatically react to get rid of some of the waste acid it is currently holding on to. But your body needs help to become more alkaline and to get rid of this waste.

Fortunately there is a product which is a solution to both of these areas and it is called ‘water’ that’s right - water.

I am sure that you have heard people say many times ‘you should drink at least 6-8 glasses of water per day’, do you take any notice?
I am guessing that you are now in one of the 3 following categories:

1. You have heard people say this and you now do drink this amount of water per day.

2. You have heard people say this but you just can’t be bothered because it means you will go to the toilet more often.

3. You have heard people say this and you just don’t believe them.

I am here to tell you that you absolutely must drink at least 2 litres (3 would be better but do not exceed 3) of alkalizing water (bottled mineral water preferably) per day. This water will re-alkalize your body therefore giving your body chance to get rid of the excess acid it has been storing and it will help get rid of this waste through your natural systems (again I am not going to graphic on this).

I guarantee that if you start to drink at least 2 litres of water per day you will start to feel the effects within a fortnight. But before you rush off to get a glass right now…………. No actually go get yourself a nice big glass full I will wait for you…….

Are you back, excellent.

There is something else you can do to help your body’s alkali levels and that is to drink green drinks. You can either get these ready made or you can get powders to mix with your water to produce a green drink.

Green drinks are made from all natural ingredients that are high in alkali levels which is obviously superb for your body. Search the net for green drinks there are numerous ones out there.

I personally drink 2 to 3 litres per day of green drinks and since I started I have found a massive difference to my life.

So there you have it, you now know the greatest gift you can give to your body to help you reduce your weight.

Craps Game Rules

Gambling Fortunes

Aside from Poker and perhaps even Roulette, Craps is one of the more well known casino games, both in the real and virtual gambling world. Craps’ simplicity and excitement draw both amateur and professional gamblers and the monetary stakes vary, attracting both average players and high rollers. The unique aspect of craps is that is not limited to the casino, but craps can also be played at house parties and even on street corners. This is what makes the game of craps so popular because anyone can learn how to play it and it introduces gambling to circles outside of the casino.

Craps is easy to learn as the rules are not very complex. Oftentimes, the only prerequisites for a good game of craps are a pair of dice and a few people. The excitement of playing in a casino, either online or in an actual facility is that the excitement of the crowd surrounding the craps table often fuels the game.

To begin a game, the player makes a passline bet. The bet is played before the dice are rolled. If you roll a 7, you’ve won. If you roll a 2, 3 or 12, you lose. Any other number you roll becomes what known as the point number. If you roll a point number, you must roll that number again before rolling a 7 or an 11 to win. If you roll 7 again before rolling the point number, you lose.

Players can make additional bets in addition to the first bet, a move that is known as the odds bet. This means that the casino loses the usual house edge and the game begins to be played on real odds, versus an edge one way or another.

Before beginning any game of craps, especially in the casino, check out other players first to learn different tips and strategies. If you are playing craps in an online gambling room, then be sure to check out rules and regulations and take advantage of any classes or other educational materials about the game. The best success stories in gambling are those who learned everything about the game they play. Craps is no different. Learn all of the tips and tricks of the game of craps to be truly successful and win big. And for casino amateurs, craps can be the best way to start on a really big roll.

Motivation From A Great Western - We All Have It Coming

World Of Self Improvement

Most self-help gurus warn us against watching too much TV. Spending time with your much maligned TV set does have advantages, however. You are, for example, able to watch a great film like ‘Unforgiven’. It has lessons which can motivate us and enlighten us.

Near the end of “Unforgiven”, the Schofield Kid (a novice assassin) kills a cowboy who has cut up the face of a prostitute.

The kid shoots the cowboy as he is ‘taking a dump’ in the outside toilet unprotected by his ‘bodyguards.’ He is obviously shaken by the experience of having killed someone so easily and drinks heavily to calm his mind:

“He ain’t gonna to breathe again ever; all on account of pulling a trigger.”

Clint Eastwood, as William Munny, the experienced killer of men, women and children, feels much the same:

“It’s a hell of a thing killing a man. You take away all he’s got and all he’s ever gonna have.”

The Schofield Kid tries to make himself feel better:

“Well I guess he had it coming.”

William Munny replied:

“We all have it coming, kid.”

There are at least three powerful motivational truths in this brief extract from the film.

Firstly, life is valuable and easily taken away by someone pulling a trigger or by a drunk driver or by a disease. All of us need to ’seize the day’and make the most of the time we have left on this planet.

Secondly, we should feel bad about taking someone else’s life away from them. I feel bad if I kill an insect or mouse. A little creature was enjoying its life until I ended it.

Thirdly, we all have it coming to us. We all reap what we sow. We need to make sure we sow the good rather than the bad. Our future will be the result of what we do now.

This is encouraging. We can influence our future to some extent at least. We just need to get busy sowing the seeds of a great future.

Every time we go for a walk we are sowing the seeds of a healthier future.

Everytime we do pushups or squats we are sowing the seeds of a stronger future.

Every time we archive or throw away some clutter we are sowing the seeds of a more organised future.

Every time we study some skill for half an hour we are sowing the seeds of a more skilful future.

Let’s make sure that what we have coming is worth looking forward to.

Don’t Just Guess - Know Your Code is Right

Web Info

Once you’ve written a web page, you can upload it to an HTML validator. This site, run by the web’s standards body, will check that your site is valid (’correct’) HTML, and give you some idea of how to fix it if it isn’t. This is an essential step in the development of any website - as vital as running your text through the spell checker - but whenever I recommend it there’s always someone who wonders why it’s so important (and also why they should bother). Well, I’ll tell you why.

Don’t Just Guess Know Your Code is Right

If your code validates, then it’s correct, and therefore very likely to work as intended on every web browser, and there are more each day, out there. If you don’t validate your pages, then you might find that people who visit your site with less forgiving browsers see nothing at all. These are customers lost.

Correct code is more likely to display correctly on many different browsers, because it puts them into their ’standards’ mode. If code is even slightly incorrect, many browsers will use a different way of displaying it, known as quirks mode, which is designed to handle old and bad HTML, takes a long time and may make your page end up with errors you didn’t expect.

Without web standards, you end up going back to the bad old days of having to develop entirely separate web pages for different browsers. Not a good idea unless working is your hobby. Validating by the standards ensures that all working browsers can view your content - if they can’t, the fault’s with them, not with you.

Give Your Customers What They Want

I’m putting this first because I feel it is probably the most important reason for using valid code. You put up a web site for people, i.e. your customers, to see, right? And you want to look professional, right? Well don’t validate your code, heck you won’t miss the visitors who leave your site cause the code is broken and making your page look crappy in their browser, will you.

Be Friendly To The Search Engines

When it comes time for a search engine to add your page to its results, it’s going to have a much easier time understanding the page if it’s been validated. This will often get you a higher ranking in the results, which means free visitors, and more money, for you. If your page isn’t valid, search engines will often miss keywords in your pages or not understand your navigation, and may list nonsensical parts of your code under your site’s name in the search results, not exactly helpful to potential visitors who want to know what your site is about.

Access All Areas

More and more people are accessing the web using mobile devices like mobile phones and PDAs, and these devices have a lot of trouble with code that isn’t valid. Because they have limited processing power, it would take them a very long time to try to untangle invalid code - they will simply strip out the formatting and do the best they can with it. What is the point in designing a page that a lot of your customers will never see? Writing valid HTML lets users with mobile devices see your pages as you intended.

Disability And technology

When you write valid code, it becomes much easier to view with things that aren’t web browsers, such as screen readers. Technology for disabled people doesn’t tend to be as forgiving as web browsers, so having valid code is important when it comes to working with these programs. This is also a good reason to use an external style sheet, as it will make it easier for their readers to read your web page.

Future-Proofing.

Before your code will validate, I’m sure you realize it’s a good idea by now, you need to explicitly say which version of HTML you had in mind when you created it. This future-proofs your code, as each version of the standard doesn’t change once it’s been decided on: a valid XHMTL 1.1 page will always be a valid XHTML 1.1 page, even if everyone else has moved on, and they will, to XHTML 5. Once you’ve validated your site once, you can put it on the web and be confident that people are going to be able to read it for a long time to come.
You can see a list of valid DTD’s here http://www.w3.org/QA/2002/04/valid-dtd-list.html also you won’t be able to validate your code without the right DTD and if you don’t have one it will cause IE to view your page in quirk mode which can really suck.

Wrong and Wrong Again

If there’s a mistake in your website’s code, validation gives you an easy way to track it down and fix it. Before validation, people had to test their site after each change and look carefully to make sure that nothing had gone wrong. Writing valid code lets you use programs that will examine what you’ve written and point at the exact place where the code doesn’t validate.

A List of Validators to Get You Going

Here are a few validators that you can try. Most HTML validators are online, but there are a few that you can download and use on your own computer.

The W3C validator: validator.w3c.org

The WDG validator: www.htmlhelp.com/tools/validator

CSE validator: www.htmlvalidator.com (downloadable)

WebTechs validator: www.webtechs.com/html-val-src

Doctor HTML: www.doctor-html.com (downloadable)

You might also be interested in visiting the W3C’s main site at w3c.org, as well as the Web Standards Project at www.webstandards.org.

Valisdation is not the hassle that some designers think and it’s well worth the effort.

“Should You Try To Stop Your Divorce If You’re Just Thinking About Getting A Divorce?”

University of Lifestyle

Thinking about getting a divorce doesn’t necessarily mean that
you should try to stop your divorce. Conversely, it could be
wise to try to s top your divorce, only you know whether you
should. Just because you’re thinking about getting a divorce,
doesn’t necessarily mean that you should try to stop your
divorce, although its logical to automatically assume so.

In order to be clear that you really want to stop your
divorce if you’re thinking about getting a divorce, you should
use any or all of the following steps to make that
determination:

Should You Stop Your Divorce?, step 1: Examine why you’re
thinking about getting a divorce and clearly define and outline
those reasons.

This is a vital part of determining whether you really do want
to stop your divorce. It is easy to naturally think you should
get a divorce if feel empty, confused, alone, frustrated, etc.
But do yourself a favor, figure out what actually has you
feeling like you do and write it down. Only then will you be
able to decide whether you should make a serious effort trying
to stop your divorce.

Should You Stop Your Divorce?, step 2: Determine if guilt is
seemingly forcing you to think about wanting to stop your
divorce of if there’s something inside you that really wants to
stop the divorce.

Guilt can play a factor when you’re thinking about getting a
divorce, don’t let it be the determining factor for wanting to
stop your divorce. If guilt is the major reason that you want to
stop your divorce, sit down and re-think everything. Ask
yourself if you’ll feel sorry for your spouse because you know
how he or she will react to your decision to get a divorce. You
will know if guilt is swaying you one way or another.

Should You Stop Your Divorce?, step 3: Use projection to foresee
how how your spouse will react if you try to stop your divorce.

You know whether your spouse will be please or disgruntled if
you try to stop your divorce. You have an idea of how he or she
will react if you try to patch things up and avoid a divorce. If
your spouse will react positively if you try to stop your
divorce, you should be happy. You may have a chance to make it
work. But, if your spouse will react harshly to efforts to stop
your divorce, you should ask yourself why. Figure out what your
spouses motivations would be for reacting negatively and
determine whether or not its still worth trying to stop your
divorce or if you should just develop a plan to part amicably.

Should You Stop Your Divorce?, step 4: Think about what your
life would be like if you tried to stop your divorce and compare
that scenario with what your currently going through.

Figure out what you want out of the situation and decide what
you want your future to look like. If you feel that your life
will worsen by trying to stop your divorce, maybe you should
re-think what your planning. If you feel that you’d like to at
least try to stop your divorce, even if its for selfish reasons,
then take comfort in the fact that you’ve at least made the
decision to act. Also, ask yourself whether or not the life you
want is with your spouse, even if everything turned out exactly
the way you planned for it and you were able to stop your
divorce.

Ask yourself, “Even if I implement this plan and manage to stop
my divorce, is this really the person I want to spend my life
with?” The answer to this question will help you determine your
course of action.

Should You Stop Your Divorce?, step 5: Implement your plan of
action to either stop your divorce or plan to get a divorce.

Nothing will change if you don’t act. Now that you’ve decided to
work it out or get a divorce, set a plan in motion with your
true end goal in mind. If you want to get a divorce, do what you
need to in order to get what you need out of the situation…be
amicable. You do not want to look back later on and feel like
you didn’t act in a mature fashion.

If you truly want to stop your divorce, use the right resources
to determine the best course of action to do that. Divorce is
serious, you should make certain for your sake and for your
spouse’s sake that you did all you could to stop your
divorce…and be happy about it!
